Iraqi officials say al-Qaida in Iraq was responsible for the violence.

The blasts were the latest in a wave of attacks over five days in and around the capital, that have killed at least 119 people.

Violence, which focused on families and homes, was reminded of the sectarian bloodshed that swept across Iraq from 2005 to 2007 and prompted the U.S. to send tens of thousands of soldiers use whatever the forefront. Ever since that time, sectarian violence and attacks against civilians have surged incycles and around major events, particularly elections.

The attacks have increased recently as political leaders try to build support to form government after the March 7 elections failed to produce a clear winner.

Ayad Allawi, whose bloc surpassed by two seats to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, blamed the new wave of violence to the political impasse. Said that it could take months to break the deadlock as both sides try to gather the majority needed to govern.
